Norwalk Chiropractor Brings Innovative Technique

from Sports to the Masses

Taping Technique Made Popular by Olympics, NFL, Tour de France, and NCAA Athletes

NORWALK, CT - April 15, 2009 – Dr. Thomas French, DC, a local Norwalk chiropractor, has become certified in the Kinesio Taping Method, a technique that offers his patients and athletes relief and support while still allowing for a full range of muscular motion. The taping technique was first used in the 1970’s, but has recently emerged in the sports medicine arena due to its use by the gold medal winning U.S. Olympic Volleyball team and other visible athletes in the NFL, Tour de France and NCAA.

As a chiropractor I can make adjustments on patients to provide relief to the spine and some of the peripheral joints, but I didn’t have the proper tools or methods for shoulder injuries, knee pain, tennis elbow and other muscular issues,” said Dr. French. “The Kinesio Taping Method has shown significant results in those difficult to treat areas, and patients are feeling the difference. The proof is evident in the results.”

The Kinesio Taping Method involves taping over and around the muscles in order to assist and give support or to prevent over-contraction. One of its many uses is to support an area while maintaining the muscle full range of motion. By using this technique, all typical physical activities that would usually be painful are now possible. It can also be used in unison with other techniques such as massage therapy, electrical stimulation, chiropractic manipulations, and more.

Dr. French continued, “One of my recent cases has been a young woman who had ‘clicking’ and pain in her shoulder for close to a year after a skiing accident. Nothing else was working the way we wanted, so we started implementing the Kinesio Taping Method. After several weeks, the ‘clicking’ had ceased, her rotator cuff muscle action had improved, and the pain subsided.”

Dr. French is a Norwalk, Connecticut resident and has been practicing in the area for the past 7 years. He is a graduate of the National University of Health Sciences in Lombard, Illinois. Dr. French specializes in relieving pain related to the musculoskeletal system and has advanced training in golf, running injuries and sports related biomechanics.
